The Unpublished Southwest

The Curtis Legacy Foundation and Buena Vista Heritage are proud to present their third collaborative exhibition, featuring Edward S. Curtis’ previously unpublished photographs of the Southwest from the early 1900s. Blending artistic beauty with meaningful education, this exhibition invites visitors into a deeper understanding of Native history and culture. Join the dialogue as Native American speakers share the stories, traditions, and perspectives of their communities.

Geronimo’s Great-Great-Grandson headlines powerful new exhibit at Buena Vista Heritage!

The Curtis Legacy Foundation, in partnership with Buena Vista Heritage, presents a rare and unforgettable cultural experience. Jerry Geronimo Martin (Apache)—direct descendant of Geronimo—leads a lineup of Native voices bringing history to life. Joined by Shawnee Real Bird (Crow Nation), and Ravis Henry (Navajo), these speakers will share stories, traditions, and perspectives rarely heard in communities like Buena Vista.

Opening May 22 at Buena Vista Heritage, Visions & Voices: The Unpublished Southwest by Edward Curtis showcases striking photographs from the early 1900s—many never displayed before—and connects them with the lived experiences of Native people today. It’s not just something to look at; it’s something you can listen to, ask questions about, and experience in a more personal way.

From intimate presentations to children’s story time in partnership with the Buena Vista Public Library, this exhibition reaches across generations—offering a rare opportunity to learn directly from Native voices.

The exhibit runs through June 14 with most events free to the public. Select presentations by Jerry Geronimo Martin, including a special VIP reception, require advance tickets.
